RESIDENCE IN MAKRIA MITI PAROS

Location Makria Miti, Paros
Area 2.000 m2
Category Landscape Architecture
Status Design and Construction supervision

Upon arrival at the residence, landscaped areas with native plants such as ancient olive trees, fruit-bearing trees, aromatic shrubs, and drought-tolerant plantings create a natural environment that enhances the sense of peace and tranquility. Pathways with hard, interrupted surfaces and gravel connect the outdoor spaces to the living area and pool, accompanied by the soothing sounds of the waves. The surrounding space, which frames the vacation home, is fully in harmony with the landscape, offering unobstructed views of the sea and sunset.
A focal point of the project is the palm tree, which dominates the inner courtyard of the building. Emerging from the white walls, the palm tree seamlessly integrates with the Cycladic landscape. The topography dictates the design of the basement with guest rooms at the lower level of the garden, which, protected from the winds, is framed by fruit-bearing trees.

The architectural approach follows the simplicity and clean lines characteristic of Cycladic structures, while the garden incorporates elements that highlight the local ecosystem and simultaneously provide a contemporary aesthetic experience. The overall concept outlines a long-term strategy to reconnect the fragmented landscape surfaces into a sustainable whole that will restore and enhance the area’s biodiversity. This strategy includes the creation of a mosaic of various Mediterranean plant species and trees with minimal water requirements, pathways of gravel, and rest areas, composing a functional and sustainable landscape.
